Divestiture For Democracy

Great news! The good folks at Velvet Revolution have begun a campaign to turn the USA into a legitimate democracy.

Their first step is an initiative called "Divestiture For Democracy". Its goal is to use economic pressure to convince the manufacturers of voting machines that it is in their best interest to provide an electoral system that is honest, transparent and verifiable. You can read more about it here, and I urge you to do so.

To honor VR and to celebrate the beginning of this exciting campaign, the lowly and nearly frozen Winter Patriot is pleased to add a permanent link to the Velvet Revolution website. It's the image you see at the top of the right-hand column. You can click there to get more details, or to sign up [it's free!] or to offer your support. Please do so, if you haven't already.

A reliable electoral process lies at the heart of any true democracy. The American electoral system is badly broken, and the results of this non-functional system are painfully evident. I cannot think of any project more deserving of your support.

As I wrote a few years ago,

The American government appears to have fallen into evil hands ... The American people ... have the fight of our lives ahead of us ... We need to be strong and smart, resourceful and determined, and working together, to have any chance of getting it back.

When I wrote those words, I had no idea how we could ever start working together. Now there's a way. Velvet Revolution looks like our best chance. It may even be our only chance. Please click on that link. Please get involved. Your children, and their children -- and peace-loving people all over the world -- will thank you! And so will I.
